“Best in Film” Each Year: A Series
• Introduction to “Best in Film” series
Other years might be a close race, but 2005 didn’t even need a second thought. The best movie of that year is one of my all-time favorites. Ang Lee’s epic
romance between two cowboys revealed to the world the skills of Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams, proved the worth of Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, and showed that world that a love story between men can be a beautiful thing. It is a gorgeous film with a heart-wrenching story that is both a call back to classic Hollywood and a breath of fresh air. A tremendous achievement.
That year I also loved ‘Sin City’, ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’, ‘Serenity’ and ‘Pride & Prejudice’, but none even come close to ‘Brokeback’.
- The Oscar went to…’Crash’
- #1 at the box office: ‘Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith’
